Our Local Safeguarding Contact Persons
Helping our parishes to safeguard children and vulnerable adults
The ‘Safeguarding Contact Person’ (previously referred to as the Child Safe Contact Person) provides a safeguarding point of contact within parishes and multicultural communities and is available to support children, families, and vulnerable adults. They assist the Safeguarding Operations team with implementing the SEFA framework in their local space.
The role of the Safeguarding Contact Person is to:
- Work in partnership with the Training & Safeguarding Officers from the Safeguarding Operations team
- Possess a strong knowledge of Archdiocesan safeguarding policies and frameworks.
- Attend regular training and forums to ensure that they are equipped and up to date with safeguarding requirements and initiatives.
- Receive and distribute resources provided by Safeguarding Operations, to ensure that safeguarding is well recognised within their space; and
- Be available for children, young people, and vulnerable adults, to speak to, provide information, share ideas with, and to report any safeguarding concerns as they arise.
The names and contact details of the Safeguarding Contact Persons are clearly displayed in parishes and communities. All Safeguarding Contact People hold a current Department of Human Services Working with Children Check and attend Safeguarding training to ensure they are aware of their mandated legal obligations in relation to reporting suspected abuse to statutory authorities when required.
