How to report to the Integrity & Professional Standards Team

Making a report regarding child or vulnerable adult abuse

If you are concerned about the safety or wellbeing of a child, young person, or vulnerable adult in your parish or community and your concern relates to the actions or behaviours (historical or current) of a member of your parish or community such as a priest, employee, volunteer, or member of a religious order, it is important that you take steps to protect that child or vulnerable person by contacting the Integrity and Professional Standards Team to make a report.

Your information will be treated with respect and your confidentiality assured wherever possible.

The Integrity and Professional Standards Team can be contacted on 08 8210 8150 Or via Email at receptionprofstandards@adelaide.catholic.org.au

IMPORTANT – IF YOU ARE A MANDATED NOTIFIER: If your concern relates to a child or young person under the age of 18 years, and you are a mandated notifier under the Children and Young Person’s (Safety) Act 2017, you are also required to make a report to the Department for Child Protection’s Child Abuse Report Line (CARL).

The Child Abuse Report Line can be contacted on: 13 14 78

__________

If your concern relates to the alleged sexual abuse of a child by a member of the archdiocese, you are also required to make a report to the SA Police: Ph 131 444

This is because under Section 64A of the Criminal Law and Consolidation Act 1935, it is a legal requirement for all employees, clergy, and volunteers of the archdiocese to report to SA police if they have suspicions or knowledge regarding the sexual abuse of a child by clergy, religious, or an employee of the archdiocese.

Failure to report under this legislation incurs criminal penalties.

__________

Alternatively, if your concern relates to the abuse or neglect of a vulnerable adult person over the age of 18 years, such as a person who is elderly or frail, or an adult who has a disability, you may wish to make a report to the South Australian Adult Safeguarding Unit or 1800 372 310.
