“…every diocese is to have a commission on the liturgy, under the direction of the bishop,
for promoting the liturgical apostolate.” Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, 45
The Diocesan Liturgical Commission is an advisory body under the direction of the Archbishop within the Archdiocese of Adelaide. The DLC meets regularly to discuss important issues relating to liturgy at the parish and diocesan levels as well as national and international matters.
The Diocesan Liturgical Commission has always been a working commission and a strong characteristic has been its volunteer nature. At times, Commissions have widened to include working parties to address particular priorities in liturgy. Over the past 60 years, the Liturgical Commissions have implemented the many liturgical reforms of the Second Vatican Council and have done much to enhance the liturgical and sacramental life of the Archdiocese. The Commission also has a long history of education and formation in liturgy.
The diocesan liturgical commission, under the direction of the bishop, has these responsibilities:
- to be aware of liturgical activities in the diocese;
- to suggest and promote practical programs that contribute to the advancement of liturgical life,
- to review proposal for liturgical re-ordering in churches,
- to assist with the research and discussion of emerging liturgical topics,
- to promote and provide opportunities for formation in the area of liturgical art and architecture,
- to assist with diocesan, parish and regional consultations and liturgical events (e.g. Diocesan Assemblies, Chrism Mass, etc.),
- to ensure the progression, review and reporting of its decisions,
- to communicate with relevant councils, advisory bodies and agencies.
